Chapter President / National Senior Vice President
Mr. Poirier is an executive and senior scientist in the oil and gas industry. His 20+ years of experience have been exclusively with small, dynamic, privately funded exploration companies. He started his career in 1997 as a geophysicist for Aspect Management acquiring and exploring an extensive library of 3D seismic data along the Texas gulf coast. From 2003 to 2011 Mr. Poirier functioned as exploration manager for Petrogulf Corporation leading a team of 8 geoscientists in multiple projects in nearly every basin in the continental US west of the Mississippi.
Mr. Poirier served as Evaluation Manager and VP of Technology for Source Energy (domestic) and La Luna (international) both private equity start-ups, initiating three domestic and one international project (Colombia SA) in multiple basins from 2011-2018. As President of Apogee Exploration he has generated projects in Southeast Colorado and Kansas. He and his partners are currently developing ~30,000 acres with an initial 30 well conventional exploration program.
Currently Mr. Poirier is actively pursuing a Northwest Colorado and Southwest Wyoming project with considerable scale.
Mr. Poirier holds a B.S. in Watershed Science (Magna Cum Laude) from Colorado State University and a M.S in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines.
I was born in St. Joseph, Missouri and attended college at Missouri State University and graduate school at the University of Tulsa where I obtained a Masters in Geology. I left the flatlands of the mid-west for a career in Denver, CO and the Rocky Mountains and have enjoyed the dry heat and sunny days ever since. I have worked basins from California to the Mid-Con with a focus on the Rockies Powder River and Bighorn Basins. My past 8 years at a small independent E&P company has allowed me to work multiple facets of the industry from geology and geophysics to operations, reservoir engineering, and financial asset analysis. I come back to geology as a primary interest due to the creativity, storytelling, and abstract thinking needed to envision reservoirs and depositional environments that have led to hydrocarbon accumulations.
In my spare time I enjoy creating maps in ArcGIS, skiing, golfing, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs trounce the Broncos.
